The UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute Ophthalmic Assistant Training Program (OATP) was established at UCLA in 1978 ( http://www.jsei.org/Education/educ_training_opastrprg_details.htm).
Ophthalmic Assistant Training Programs have been established at major universities to train and educate ancillary personnel to assist ophthalmic professionals in the care of patients as well as to provide primary eye care.
